Source: Figwort Root is the dried root of Scrophularia ningpoensis Hemsl,The Chinese use xuanshen,the root of a related species, S,ningpoensis, as a prime remedy for”fire poisons”,the kind of purulent conditions associated with the herb in the west.
Action: To reduce heat from blood, to nourish yin, to quench fire, and to counteract toxicity.
Indications: Febrile diseases with impairment of yin manifested by deep red tongue and dire thirst,or with eruptions:constipation due to imparmrnt of body fluid; phthisis with cough;conjunctivitis,sore throat,scrofula,diphtheria,boils and sores.
