Potent activator of the adenylate cyclase system and the biosynthesis of cycllic AMP. From the plant Coleus forskolli. Has antihypertensive, positive ionotropic, platelet aggregation inhibitory, and smooth muscle relaxant activities; also lowers intocular pressure and promotes release of horomones from the pituitary gland.
Forskolin extracted from Coleus has been well studied for its phytochemical properties. It shows Vasodilating, Cardiostimulatory, hypotensive activity, inhibits aggregation of human platelets, acts as brochodilator and decreases intraoccular pressure. It is indicated in conditions like hypertension, congestive heart failure and other cardiovascular diseases. Also in asthma, glaucoma, eczema, and psoriasis. Adenylate cyclase activating properties, used as leaning agent in obesity. Also in purification of Adenylate cyclase.
