Hippophae is a genus of sea buckthorns, deciduous shrubs in the family Elaeagenaceae. The name sea buckthron may be hyphenated to avoid confusion with the buckthorns(Rhamnus, family Rhamnaceae). It is also referred to as sandthorn, sallowthorn, or seaberry.
