Toasted coconut or called Kerisik is used in Malaysian & Indonesian cooking.
It is so sometimes referred to as coconut butter. Coconut is grated, toasted, then ground to a paste.
It can be made at home or bought ready made. Kerisik is a must-have in cooking traditional Malay cuisine such as Laksa and Rendang as it adds on a really fragrant and smoky taste.
