Rhamnose is a naturally occurring deoxy sugar. It can be classified as either a methyl-pentose or a 6-deoxy-hexose. Rhamnose occurs in nature in its L-form as L-rhamnose (6-deoxy-L-mannose). L-Rhamnose is also called α-L-Rhamnopyranose, 6-Dexoxy-D-mannose, 6-Deoxy-L-mannose, Isodulcite, L-Mannomethylose. Most of Rhamnose in nature is L-Rhamnose, existing in plants as the types of Polysaccharides, glycosides,
plant gum and bacterial polysaccharides.
Function:
1. It can be used to test the permeability of intestinal tract.
2. It is a naturally occurring sugar, and can be used as sweetener.
3. It can be used in the production of flavoring.
