Maca Root Powder
Maca is a herbaceous plant native to the Andes mountains of Peru. Food plants is one of the only ones in the world capable of thriving at a high altitude. Maca, and more specifically the root of the plant, has a long history as a super food. The Maca root was prized throughout the Inca empire for its adaptogenic qualities as they allow it to nourish and balance the delicate body's endocrine system, and to help deal with stress. Spanish conquerors recorded in their magazines that upon reaching the Junin Puna in Peru, babies were well fed and adults were tall, attributing these characteristics to the Maca diet. The QUECHUA Indians in the central highlands of Peru continue to consider Maca a highly nutritious food with a range of physical benefits and which they include as a regular base element in their diet. Maca powder is loaded with nutritious vitamins, minerals, amino acids and plant sterols, including vitamins B2, B, C, niacin, iron, potassium, copper, manganese and calcium. It is a foods rich in fiber and a good source of vegetable protein (about ten percent). Maca root is also a source of fatty acids, and contains four unique alkaloids (macaine 1, 2, 3 and
