Nucleotides(NT) consist of a nitrogenous base, a pentose sugar, and one or more phosphate groups. Adenosine monophsophate (AMP), Guanosine monophosphate(GMP), Cytidine monophosphate (CMP), Uridine monophosphate(UMP), and Inosine monophosphate(IMP) are the common ribonucleotides. They play key roles in many biological metabolic processes of living cells. Nucleotides can be biosynthesized endogenously and thus not essential nutrients. Dietary nucleotides may however, have beneficial effects upon the immune system, small intestinal growth and development, lipid metabolism, and hepatic function, especially to babies and infants.
