The Camu Camu is a shrub of 6 to 8 ms. of height, native of some Peruvian affluents of the Amazon river, that is characterized to be as a fruit of 10 to 32 mm. of diameter, pink redish colour and soft.
In wild state the Camu Camu vegetates in the border of the rivers, submerged part of the trunk until a height from 30 to 40 % its total stature. It produces between the months of December and March.

Origin and Distribution: Bolivian  Amazon,  Brazilian,   Colombian,  Ecuadorian,Peruvian , Venezuelan and the Guianas . In the Peruvian Amazon we have natural populations : Loreto and Ucayali. At present there are plantation crops : Mother of God , Chanchamayo and Satipo ( Junin ) , Tingo Maria ( Huanuco ) .

According to reports analyzed, we suggest that the fruits of camu camu, containing ascorbic acid (vitamin C) in concentrations greater than 2000 mg / 100g, also volatile compounds as ethyl acetate, α - pinene, α- fencheno, ethyl butyrate, camphene, β- pinene, myrcene β-, α- felandreno, α- terpinene, d-limonene, felandreno β-, γ- terpinene, cymene ρ-, terpinolene, fenchol, β- caryophyllene. Thus we have according to the atomic absorption technique identified 14 primary minerals such as: potassium, calcium, m agnesium, sodium, aluminum, boron, copper, iron, manganese, zinc, chlorine, cobalt, cadmium, lead. In addition there are also compounds such as carotenoids, total and individual phenolic compounds, anthocyanin, flavonoids, phenolic compounds, fatty acids and amino acids.Shell the presence of ascorbic acid four types of individual anthocyanidins, total phenolic compounds, anthocyanin and flavonoids was determined.
