DESCRIPTION
Flat pieces, or two edges somewhat curved inwards, varying in size, 3~7mm thick. Outer surface pale brown or greyish-brown, markedly wrinkled or fissured and channeled longitudinally; some barks relatively thin, showing distinct lenticels when the coarse bark unscraped; inner surface dark purple, smooth. Texture fragile, easily broken, fracture linked up by fine, dense, silvery and elasitic rubber threads. Odour, slight; taste, slightly bitter .
ACTION
To tonify the liver and the kidney, to strengthen the tendongs and bones, and to prevent miscarriage.
INDICATIONS
Deficiency condition of the kinder markec by lumbago and lack of strength; threatened abortion; hypertension.
REFERENTIAL ADVICE
1. Nourishing the liver and kidney and strengthening the bones and muscles.
It is efficacious in the treatment of deficiency of the liver-yin and kidney-yin manifested as soreness and weakness of the loins and knees; deficiency and coldness in the liver and kidney marked by impotence, frequent micturition, etc.
2. Miscarriage prevention.
It is efficacious in nourishing the kidney and preventing abortion, usually prescribed in the treatment of threatened abortion and habitual abortion.
3. Calming and suppressing liver-yang.
It is efficacious in the treatment of dizziness and vertigo due to hyperactivity of liver-yang
