Pumpkin is an annual plant that consists of long, thick, hairy vines that can grow up to 25 feet in length. The broad green leaves are heart shaped and are prominently veined. The Pumpkin vine also produces both male and female flowers, which are large and trumpet shaped, often yellow to orange in color. The fruit of the vine, the Pumpkin itself, it most often round and has a rind colored an intense, bright orange; however some varieties may be more oval in shape and green in color. The flesh, or pulp, of the pumpkin is dense and flavorful. Small seeds fill the hollow caverns within the Pumpkin. Pumpkin is used in a variety of ways, one of the most popular being the holiday favorite Pumpkin pie, as well as other culinary dishes. The pulp of the Pumpkin is also dried and powdered and sold as a potent supplement.
