Expanded products are products whose volume is expanded by certain technological operations. Expansion of raw products in our snack production line is performed in a high-pressure extruder. Raw material is exposed to high-pressure and at temperature up to 150 200°C. When such material is released from the extruder, the water evaporates and the material becomes porous and increased in volume up to 3 or 4 times. Various extruder heads can produce different shapes of extruded products such as cylinders, rings, semi-rings or balls. Snack products can be prepared from corn or wheat grits, potato flakes or combination of these materials. Our production lines are able to produce additive-free products, although the market demands snack products with improved taste and nutrition value. Some of the most common additives are peanut or tomato paste, palm-tree or sunflower oil, salt, red pepper, sodium-glutaminate or combination of these additives.

DESCRIPTION OF A TECHNOLOGICAL PROCESS


corn grits are manually poured in the vertical mixer funnel where it is thoroughly mixed and homogenised. Raw material must contain 14% of water for extruder to function properly, and enough water must be added until it meets this percent. Prepared homogenised material is transported to the extruder funnel by spiral elevator. Precise dosing machine inserts the material in the main horizontal spiral, which squeezes it through the extruder head under high pressure. After the expansion is completed, the extruder knife cuts the product in bits of desired size. Product is then transported to the drying silo by pneumatic transporter with blower. The product is then dried by hot air that is provided by drying unit until it's humidity level reaches 1%. Through the vibrating unit the product is transported to the mixing drum. In the flavour preparing unit the additives are mixed according to the desired formulation afterwards transported through a volumetric pump to the mixing drum and dispersed over the product. Now, the good mixture of product and flavour is ready for packaging.
