Young Hyson is a type of green tea, defined by how it is processed and the age of its leaves.  Generally Y oung green 

tea leaves are harvested and twisted into long threads. With a name meaning “before the rains,” this tea produces a 

golden cup that is full-bodied and, due to the young leaves, possessing a hint of natural sweetness.  Contains Caffeine  

 

Young Hyson is an early-harvested Hyson,  plucked before the Spring rains. It is much more delicate in Flavour and aroma than Gunpowder, and with its neatly 

twisted leaves is attractive in appearance. Young Hyson tea is also known as Yu Chin Cha or Chun Mee, which means 

Precious Eyebrow - a term that is meant to describe the shape of the twisted leaf.  The flavour of Young Hyson tea is light, sweet and refreshing. The smoky character of some of the China teas is absent 

as is the bitterness of some Gunpowders. This is a tea to infuse delicately and enjoy after a meal. 

Young Hyson tea is the highest grade of Hyson tea. The leaves are picked before the rainy season to ensure a younger, 

higher quality leaf. The leaves are then twisted and dried at a higher heat than other greens giving them a heavier 

body and slightly fuller, pungent flavor. Young Hyson tea leaves are rolled so they have a long, twisted appearance 

that unfurls when brewed.

This tea is sold loose leaf, meaning it will not arrive packed in tea bags.

 

Steeping Instructions:

1 Teaspoon p er cup

Use water that is approximately 165 degrees Fahrenheit (Water that is boiling will “cook” green and white teas, 

causing a bitter, unpleasant taste)

Steep for 1-2.5 minutes (over steeping green teas will also cause bitterness)
