1.Treat fever, colds and infections
As a "natural aspirin", salicin was used to treat minor fevers, colds, infections (influenza), acute and chronic rheumatism,
headaches, and pain from inflammation. Aspirin (acetylsalicylic acid), as a synthetic substitute for salicylic acid, has potential side effects on the gastrointestinal tract. As its natural configuration, salicin can pass through the gastrointestinal system harmlessly and be converted into salicylic acid in blood and liver. The conversion process takes several hours, so the result will not be immediately felt by the body, but the general effect will last for several hours.
2. Reduce arthritis pain and back pain
Salicin is considered to be a source of anti-inflammatory and pain-reducing abilities of White Willow Bark. The analgesic capacity of white willow bark is usually slower but lasts longer than ordinary aspirin products. One trial found that a class of herbal compounds containing 100 ng of salicylic acid could effectively improve the analgesic capacity of arthritis patients after two consecutive months of administration. Another trial found that a daily intake of 1360 mg of white willow bark extract (containing 240 mg of salicin) could have a better effect on treating joint pain and/or arthritis after two weeks. The use of high-dose extracts of white willow bark may also help to relieve back pain. A four-week trial found that white willow bark extract containing 240mg of salicylic acid can effectively reduce the deterioration of low back pain.
