The 250 hectares of vines grown to produce the range of Patria Torrepalino wines are spread across the length and breadth of Sicily, and must adapt with the varying landscape and climate. Nuture and respect for the land and traditional production methods blend perfectly with new technologies involved in cultivation and processing to produce our high quality wine. We are the largest producers of Etna DOC wine, and its most prized products have always been the Nerello Mascalese, Cappuccio and Mantellato wines. These three sons of Etna have noble blood and a fiery temperament. The wine cellar terrace is a strategic observation point, affording views as far as the eye can see over the vines below, producing Grapes for Etna DOC, red, rosé and white varieties.

The story of Torrepalino and its Slavonia oak barrel, is linked to that of the Aragonese watch tower that sprang up to defend the region. This in itself was in charge of controlling the entire Alcantara valley, and providing a reference point for passing travellers. On one side is the commercial port of Riposto; and on the other that of Milazzo. Both ports are leading players in Sicilian commercial wine industry transport and the movement of people and goods. Our stock of barrels has a total capacity of 8,500 hl, with various types of winery containers. We use traditional Italian methods for wine refinement, with 110 to 130 hl truncated cone-shaped vats, and 25 to 70 hl barrels, together with special oaken casks known as Barriques to allow us to differentiate the wines, and achieve the right balance between these diverse refinement methods.

Steel tanks make up around 83% of the production site’s tank capacity of 30,000 hectolitres. This is split into 5,000 for wine-making machines, 22,000 hectolitres for storage capacity, 3,000 for insulated containers and 300 for pressure tanks for sparkling wines. The wine-making department boasts state-of-the-art fermenting machines with hot and cold temperature controls, automatic must pumping with sprinklers and blades for grape marc extraction.

The wine production site is equipped with a high-tech bottling line. This isobaric plant has an hourly output of 6,000 bottles. The plant is subject to many control mechanisms, to ensure quality and consumer safety. Such mechanisms range from simply the cork top, correct labelling, ensuring the bottles are adequately filled and weighed. More technical mechanisms include automated cleaning equipment tests, rinsing and checks on the functioning and operability of automatic microfiltration equipment which guarantee an uncontaminated product.
