Antrodia cinnamomea , also known as “niu-chang-chih” in Taiwan, is an indigenous medicinal Mushroom that has gained world attention both in the academics and the health industry. Antrodia cinnamomea can only be found inside the rotten camphor tree trunks, and was first used by the Taiwanese aboriginals for detoxification. It has later become a potent but mild supplement.
Antrodia cinnamomea mycelia may protect liver against alcohol
Rats were orally administered Antrodia cinnamomea mycelia for 9 days before alcohol challenge, and the results showed that serum levels of GOT/GPT were significantly lowered. (Journal of Food and Drug Analysis, Vol. 11, No. 3, 2003, Pages 177-185)
Antrodia cinnamomea mycelia exerts comparable beneficial effects as Silymarin
Results of a 2007 study showed that the administration of Antrodia cinnamomea markedly prevented ethanol-induced elevation of levels of serum AST, ALT, ALP, and bilirubin. The beneficial effects were comparable to silymarin. ( Journal of Ethnopharmacology 110 (2007) 160–164)
