Menthol, also known as menthol, is a terpene organic compound, chemical formula C10H20O.
Menthol is a white crystal extracted from the leaf and stem of peppermint.
It is the main ingredient in peppermint and peppermint essential oils.
Menthol generally comes in two isomers (D and L), and the natural menthol is predominantly left-handed
Application
1. Menthol crystal is used for making cooling oil, painkillers, toothpaste, toothpowder, candy, drinks, spices and other purposes.
2. Used as a stimulant in medicine, it acts on the skin or mucous membrane and has a refreshing and antipruritic effect. Oral administration can be used as a wind drive medicine, for headache and nasal, pharynx, laryngitis, etc.
3. Topical use for local pain relief, itching relief, headache, vertigo, mosquito bites
4. For external use, it can reduce inflammation, relieve pain, relieve itching, promote blood circulation, relieve edema, etc. Internally taken with compound preparation can relieve local inflammation (pharyngitis) and the treatment of cold, and has the effect of stomach, drive wind.
5. Nasal drops for colds, inhalation or spray for laryngitis. Oral administration can strengthen the stomach.
6. Menthol can selectively stimulate the human skin or mucous membrane cold receptors, cold reflex and cold sensation, causing the skin mucous membrane vasoconstriction. It can also cause constriction to the blood vessels of deep tissue and produce therapeutic effect.
