Pineapple is a very good source of Vitamin C and Manganese as well as a good source of Dietary Fiber, Thiamin, vitamin b6 and Copper. Foods high in Vitamin C such as Pineapple have been shown to be helpful in supporting the immune system as well as possibly enhancing iron absorption. But the real champion of nutrition in this tropical fruit is bromelain, a combination of enzymes that has shown the potential for an anti-inflammatory effect as well as benefiting the cardiovascular system.*

Pineapple is a tough, sharp leaved tropical plant primarily grown for its edible fruit, which is also known as the Pineapple. The Pineapple fruit emerges from the center of the plant, first in the form of tiny, spiky red flowers, eventually maturing into an entire Pineapple. The Pineapple fruit is actually made up of many tiny fruitlets, each evolved from the Pineapple flowers, coalesced together on a single fibrous core. Each fruitlet is distinguished by the small hexagonal shapes known as “eyes” on the bumpy surface of the Pineapple fruit. Ripe Pineapple fruits are green to golden in color, depending on the variety. Each fruit has a crown of sharply pointed leaves similar to the Pineapple plant itself. The flesh of the fruit is bright to golden yellow, and is juicy and fibrous in texture. Pineapple is often enjoyed as fresh fruit, but is also commonly canned, jellied and dried. Ripe Pineapple emits a sweet smelling aroma and has a sweet and tangy tropical flavor.
