100% Natural and of Superb Quality Extra Virgin Olive Oil from Messinia-Greece

Messinia is located in the Southwest of the Peloponnese, in the South of Greece. It is a land with ideal climatic conditions, blessed by the ancient Greek Gods!

Messinia is mentioned in the oldest work of European literature, Homer’s Iliad. The name undoubtedly goes back to at least the Bronze Age, but its origins are lost in the world of Mythology.

Euripides, the ancient Greek dramatic poet, called Messinia “the land of the good fruit” for its fertile earth and beauty.

Messinia produces the world famous Kalamata Extra Virgin Olive Oil , a 100% pure and natural juice, of the highest quality and of unique nutritional value, produced from Olives.

The Olive tree, a sacred tree, has been cultivated in Messinia since the 12th century BC. Archaeological excavations at the palace of Nestor, the ancient king of Messinia, have brought to light evidence that show the enormous importance of the juice of the Olive tree for the society of the time.

At the heart of the Messinian plains, lies the village of Kremmydia, blessed with a microclimate which is ideal for the growing of Olives of outstanding quality.

It is here that, for three generations, we have been growing and pressing Olives to produce Olive Oil with the expertise gained from the passion and hard work of our parents and our grandparents.

We bottle it and offer it to you under the label of “the greek pantry”.

the greek pantry!

Our very own label for the very best that Greece can offer, born out of our passion for authentic Greek cuisine!

We are proud to introduce our label, “ the greek pantry” , with Greek Olive Oil, the most basic ingredient of Greek cuisine and the Mediterranean Diet.

Superb, premium Extra Virgin Olive Oil, extracted from olives of the Koroneiki variety, of outstanding specifications, color, aroma and taste.

It is extracted through mechanical, cold-press means only, ensuring that the essential vitamins, poly-phenols and other anti-oxidants contained are preserved.

Olive Oil benefits are numerous.

Here is a list of twelve good reasons to use Extra Virgin Olive Oil in your everyday cooking and daily life:

1. It's Natural! - The most important benefit of Olive Oil. Extra Virgin Olive Oil is nothing but juice extracted mechanically from the olive fruit. There is no heat or chemicals used during the extraction process.

2. Flavor - It just tastes good! It is an acquired taste and some people don't like the bitter characteristic of some Olive Oils. Still, most  Olive Oil varieties are known for their mild flavor and olive oil pressed from ripe olives is smooth, mellow and buttery. You can substitute butter with Olive Oil in your daily cuisine.

3. Nutritional Value - Vitamins E, K, and A as well as polyphenols, squalene, oleocanthol, triterpenes and hundreds more micronutrients make olive oil a very healthy alternative.

4. Oleic Acid - Oleic acid (omega 9) makes up 55 - 85 percent of the fatty acids in Olive Oil. Don't confuse this with the amount of free oleic acid which is the main factor used to determine the grade of the Olive Oil- the lower the acidity the better. Oleic acid aids in keeping our arteries supple and helps prevent cancer.

5. Hydrogenated Oils - Olive Oil is not hydrogenated oil. Hydrogenation creates dangerous trans-fats found in margarine and many other packaged foods.

6. Healthy Heart and Cholesterol - Extra Virgin Olive Oil is high in polyphenols (a powerful antioxidant) and monounsaturated fat which contributes to lowering bad cholesterol.

7. Cancer - Researchers believe that a diet rich in Olive Oil may be just as effective in the prevention of colon, breast and skin cancer as fresh fruits and vegetables.

8. Blood Pressure - Studies now show that Extra Virgin Olive Oil may help to lower blood pressure. Patients were able to reduce or eliminate the need for medications when Olive Oil was consumed on a regular basis.

9. Alzheimer’s - This disease is associated with the clogging of arteries caused by cholesterol and saturated fat. Replacing other fats with Olive Oil will reduce the risks of the disease.

10. Gallstones - Olive Oil promotes the secretion of bile and pancreatic hormones, naturally lowering the incidence of gallstones.

11. Skin Care - Olive Oil is full of nutrients, vitamins, antioxidants, and natural compounds that benefit our bodies inside and out. Some that are especially good for our skin are:

  • Antioxidants - They work to neutralize free radicals and repair cell membranes. A free radical is an unstable molecule created by exposure to things like cigarette smoke, pollution, alcohol and radiation.

  • Squalene - A natural organic compound used in cosmetics as a moisturizer. It is taken from the liver of sharks, but also found in olive oil - a more environmentally friendly source.

  • Chlorophyll - A photosynthetic pigment found in plants and algae. It is an anti-aging substance that promotes the healing of skin conditions and wounds.

Additionally, It's cheap!  Even though Olive Oil is not known as a cheap alternative to other oils used for cooking, it is when compared to skin care products.

12. Hair Care - Have you ever thought that there could be a connection between Olive Oil and hair care? Olive Oil is not only great as part of your favorite recipes or as part of a salad dressing, but it can also be used to moisturize your hair and scalp and can even help restore dull and damaged hair and leave it shiny and frizz-free.

Substitution of butter, margarine or other oils with Olive Oil:

You can substitute butter, margarine or other oils with Olive Oil in almost any recipe.

The basic rule is to use an equal amount of Olive Oil, if the recipe calls for Vegetable oil or about 25% less of Olive Oil (in terms of volume) if the recipe calls for butter.

The variety of olives and harvest time are major factors affecting the flavor of Olive Oil.

If you want to replace butter with Olive Oil, to use in baking or on delicately flavored foods, you don't want an Olive Oil that is described as "grassy, peppery, or pungent". An Olive Oil described as "smooth, mellow, and buttery" is what you're looking for.

Enjoy!
