1. Introduction:

1-MCP is the most outstanding fresh-keeping agent in recent years. It is widely used in agriculture in many developed countries. It is testified that using the fresh-keeping agent "1-MCP" before synthesis of ethylene within the fruit,1-MCP can pre-empt these ethylene receptors and prevent the formation of ethylene receptor compound, i.e. block up the transmission of ethylene-induced signal. And thus slow down physiological and biochemical reactions such as ripening and senescence in fruits and vegetables, delay fruit ripening and aging, to keep the fruit, vegetable and flowers fresh.

2. Application:

The dosage of application of "1-MCP" is very little, it is caculated in micrograms. Application method is fumigation. When using, as long as keep the fruit and vegetable stored in airtight space as the specified time, then ventilation, we can achieve the effect of storage and fresh-keeping.

2-1. There are three patterns for fumigation

A. Fumigation in cellar

Mode 1. Approach the targeted agriculture goods in one board or storage rack. Pack the goods with plastic tent tightly. Then carry out the treatment in then tent.

Mode 2.Directly carry out fumigation in the cellar. But the cellar must be airproofed and non-airleakage.

B. Fumigation in air-conditional store / cooling store

The agriculture goods can be stored in the air-conditional store / cooling store directly after harvesting and packing. Carry out fumigation in the store universally. But attention that the packages must be hollow-out carton, cardboard or plastic basket. If the box is air-tight, using 1-MCP tablet to fumigate directly and then seal the box at once. At last, put the box in the air-conditional / cooling store.

C. Fumigation before long-distance transportation

Mode 1. Before shipment or consignment, carry out fumigation in an air-tight room. But the goods must be in bulk or in a hollow-out carton.

Mode 2. When treat fumigation in carriage or in container,the carriage and container should be air-tight. The goods should be in bulk. It is best that truck is in stop. Because when the truck is moving, if only there is a little leakage of the air, the effect of 1-MCP will decrease.

Mode 3. Treatment during the shipment. When you deliver the agriculture goods, put the 1-MCP tablet directly into the box and seal the box promptly. Attention: The carton should be sealed completely. As long as there is a little gap, “1-MCP” gas will circulate with outside air.

2-2. There are two formulation of 1-MCP at present. The following is the application method of each formulation.

2-2-1 . Application for 1-MCP Powder:

First calculate the volume of storage sites (m³).

A ccording to the ambient temperature, space size and pre-processing time to calculate the suitable dosage.

Pour the powder into a cup (1 g/cup), fix it in corresponding position, then add 30 ~ 40 ml of water into the cup and quickly seal storage room and fumigate.

2-2-2 . Application for 1-MCP Tablet and Sachet:

The tablets are generally used in the box packing a small amount of fruit and vegetable. The box must be sealed, or inside a thick plastic liner. When carrying out fumigation, sealing the the lining is OK.

Fill the box with fruits and vegetables fully, wrap the tablet in napkin or cotton (should not be too thick, or else affect the release of efficient 1-MCP gas). And then wet the tablet with water quickly and put it in the box and immediately sealed box or lining.

3. Appropriate crops that could use 1-MCP:

Fruits: banana, apple, pear, apricot, peach, persimmon, Hami melon, plum, nectarine, kiwi, cherry, red bayberry, gourd is a fruit, dates, avocados, grapes, mangoes, papayas, passion fruit, strawberry, pineapple, Guava and so on.

Vegetables: tomatoes, lettuce, celery, cabbage, potatoes, carrots, lily, onion, Chinese toon, beans, broad beans, peas, broccoli, asparagus, parsley, cucumber, onion, garlic sprouts, (blue, red) peppers, artichokes, cowpea, sweet corn, Flammulina, etc..

Flowers:

a) Cut flowers: roses, lilies, carnations, orchids, hibiscus, tulip, pansy, bluebells flower, six flowers genus, Antirrhinum majus, Po Yung wood, Campanula, Delphinium, Dianthus, Gypsophila paniculata , violet, butterfly orchids, blue hydrangeas, roses and so on.

b) Potted flowers: Miniature Rose, modern roses, Schlumbergera, winter Begonia, Campanula grass, hibiscus, Ixora, petunia, butterfly orchids, geranium and so on.

Method of use:

     Dissolve 1 gram 1-MCP with 20ml warm water in a cup, put the cup in the room then leave

the room and close the door. Door and window are sealed. Dissolved in water it will release

a kind of gas, this gas will act on fruit. The time should be controlled not less than 8 hours.
